Cocoa is magic! This is the taste and smell of chocolate, hot drink, satiety and comfort. Plus magnesium, iron, calcium and antioxidants. This fall, I really fell in love with cocoa and hooked my husband on it. My cocoa recipe for one.

  • Put a tablespoon or two (15-25 g) of good cocoa powder in a ladle with a mug of cold water. Mix.
  • I put everything that I love there: ginger in pieces and powdered, a cinnamon stick, an anise star, a pinch of cloves, a pinch of salt, which enhances the taste of cocoa. If there is cardamom, nutmeg, then so are they.
  • When it boils, you can remove it from the heat and let it stand for a while under the lid. Or you can lower the heat and let the cocoa bubble a little.
  • For those who crave sweets, a tablespoon of erythritol (I have this Swerve). But I beg you, try first without it. With good cocoa powder, no sweeteners are needed.
  • You can't spoil it with cocoa butter, you get "cocoa armor". The piece of cocoa butter worked well, but I liked the butter better.
  • Remove from heat, pour into a mug. We make sure that the cocoa powder does not remain in the ladle, but falls into the mug.
  • You can strain, but I like to have all the spices in the mug and as I drink the cocoa becomes even more tart.

Can you eat cocoa on a keto diet?

Yes, cocoa for keto and LCHF is possible!

Here's a quote from The Keto Diet by Dr. Joseph Mercola:

“Raw cocoa powder contains 4 times more antioxidants than dark chocolate, making it one of the most concentrated sources of antioxidants in the world. In addition, it contains protein, calcium, carotene, thiamine, riboflavin, magnesium, sulfur, and over 380 phytochemicals.

Cocoa powder does not contain any polyunsaturated fats at all, so do not worry that eating it will exceed your omega-6 intake, as is the case with seeds and nuts. "

I will add that the BJU of cocoa powder is approximately: 370 kcal, 19 fat, 24 protein, 10 carbohydrates, BUT, comrades, this is for 100 grams! And in the cup you will have 10-25 grams and some will still remain on the sides of the ladle. In general, even if you are on a keto diet with a strict BJU count, then in my opinion, there is nothing to count.

Cocoa powder, water, spices ... Warms and nourishes.

From personal cocoa experience

  1. Cocoa lowers blood pressure. I am just hypotonic, at the third round I already feel bad, so I drink no more than 2 a day.
  2. Can I have cocoa at night? Yes. I sleep well after him. And after coffee or strong tea, I don't sleep all night. But, probably, this is individual, look at your feelings.
  3. For a more satisfying option, toss chia seeds in the bottom of the mug. When the cocoa is over, they will already be waiting for you swollen with the taste of cocoa and spices.
  4. Cream, too, to your taste. I do not like with them.
  5. My husband laughs, says that my cocoa is children's mulled wine. But he’s right, a mulled wine spice mix, if it’s not sugar-free, will work with cocoa.
  6. No, this is not the cocoa that you were given to drink in school as a child. More like hot chocolate.
  7. It is very pleasant to have a snack with cocoa mozzarella or cheese with butter. My holiday version with oopsie and lemon curd. And with keto marzipan c’est delicieux.
  8. Below are a few options for cocoa powder that I like and dislike. As I try new ones, I'll add them here. I don't want to try the "Golden Label" for personal reasons. People I know have praised the Callebaut® brand cocoa, but I haven’t tried it yet.

It's tasteless. I do not recommend it.

I have such a powder now. Like.

This is a good powder. I like it.
